Secret Reasons T.A. Orji Is Quitting Active Politics
Senator Theodore Orji has again restated his determination to quit active politics in 2023 when his second term as senator representing Abia Central would have come to an end.
The decision first expressed just before the 2019 General Election was restated following the recent pasting of 2023 presidential campaign posters linking the former governor to a presidential ambition.
The governor was quick to deny the posters speaking through Ifeanyi Umere, his Chief Liaison Officer that the posters were the handiwork of disgruntled political enemies who he accused of being behind “the wicked act.”
While renouncing the 2023 presidential posters, Orji said:
“This is to let the public know that senator TA Orji is not running for any political position in 2023 as he has last year declared that he is quitting politics in 2023.
“Those behind this act are those who are not happy with the towering status of the former Abia Governor in national politics.
“Senator TA Orji is using this opportunity to assure his constituents that he will not be distracted by these latest antics of these political Lilliputians, as he will remain focused in delivering the dividends of democracy to the zone.”
GreenWhiteGreen gathered that beyond the denial that there is mounting pressure on Orji to quit the political stage on account of the towering presence of himself and his son, Chinnedum Orji who is also the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly.
Sources disclosed that with the Orji family occupying the two dominant positions in the Abia Central Senatorial District that political rivals feel that the family’s influence should be reduced as a way for some other political influence peddlers in the state to further entrench themselves.
“The father is senator and the son is Speaker and some people feel that the family has to give way and the father believes that it is better for him to give way for his son to grow,” one source familiar with the development said.
Governor Ikedi Ikpeazu according to sources is not connected with the pressure on Orji but a number of those involved are said to be aligned to the governor.
“Ikpeazu will not do anything to damage Orji given the son’s role in his ascension, but some people around the power corridor are suspected to be involved,” a source said.
