Ogbeide-Ihama Takes Honourable Path, Withdraws From Edo PDP Primary

One of the major aspirants for the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Edo State, Engr Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama has decided to withdraw from the primary election.

Ogbeide-Ihama took his decision to withdraw from the controversial Edo primary election vide a letter dated February 12, 2024 addressed to the PDP National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu.

GWG.ng reports that this is the second time that Ogbeide-Ihama would be pulling out from the governorship primary just before the exercise after purchasing the nomination form.

In June 2020 when he was the leading aspirant in the race for the ticket, he was also compelled by party leaders and PDP governors to pull out after Governor Godwin Obaseki joined the party following the refusal of his former party, All Progressives Congress, APC to give him the nod to seek a second term ticket.

Four years later responding to what he claimed as the refusal of the PDP to stick to its guidelines for the primary election, Ogbeide-Ihama said:

“Over a year ago, in response to the overwhelming calls from a diverse section of our citizenry, I began the painstaking consultation process with various stakeholders in our state. Based on the response, I set out on the journey of contesting for the governorship position of Edo State following all the laid down processes provided by our party’s National Working Committee.

Unfortunately, the process was corrupted b the several irregularities that marked the ward congress organized by our party in Edo State. I and eight other aspirants voiced our dissatisfaction with the transparency of the process and the culpability of the committee that was sent to oversee the process. It was glaring that the process had been skewed to favour a particular aspirant unjustly.

Having consulted with my family, key stakeholders and supporters, I have taken the hard, honourable, and logical decision to withdraw from the process of selecting a candidate for our party for the 2024 Edo Governorship Election.
