Farooq, Do You Want to Know Why We Love Trump?
By Idang A. Alibi
Apparently, my friend and ace commentator, Farooq Kperogi, cannot understand why anyone on earth, especially Nigerians, Africans and the Black World, should love USA President Donald Trump.
According to Farooq and others who hate Trump viscerally, the man is a racist, a sexist, a xenophobe and a mental retard, totally unfit to be president of the USA or any other country on earth. In many articles on us Trumpeters, Farooq has expressed his stupefaction at our supposed foolery.
Well, there are some of us who think differently about Trump and we have our reasons. For me, I do not love Trump because he hates Muslims, Buhari or anybody else. I love Trump not because he is an example of the saying that the enemy of my enemy is my friend because I have no enemies. I just love him for who he is and what he has done with the office he sought for and was graciously given by the American electorate. Here are my reasons:
1. His American First policy: This Trump guy is not a pretentious lot. He came to power with an agenda he made clear to the world, namely, that he will do everything within his power and the powers allowed by his country’s Constitution to place America firmly first in the comity of nations. And since his surprised accession to the American presidency, he has done just that. And his country has regained its bounce, especially and crucially, in the economic sector.
I wish that I can have in my own country, a man or woman who will seek to be president because he or she wants to put Nigeria First. Here in my benighted country, we sell our one commodity, oil, for billions of dollars each year. We use that money and more to import so many things to our country, most of which we can produce for ourselves here at home. Then we do not stop at that folly. No, we proceed to look desperately for loans to finance more frivolities and seek these loans at any terms. That is how desperate and foolish we are. At the rate we are going, we may be renamed Nigeria, Federal Republic of Loans.
2. His hatred of what Farooq and others call sexual minorities: Sexual Minorities such as the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestites and Queer (LGBTQ) community are not a lovable lot.
This community is rude, arrogant, domineering and incredibly uncaring about the feeling of others. They do not seem aware that their sexual preferences hurt the sensibilities of others. They also do not seem aware of the fact that they are a minority and that they do want to impose their lifestyle which a majority hate, on that same majority. People like Farooq have been socialized by the corrupted media to tolerate the sexual minorities but we are not.
As soon as Trump came to power, women of assorted characters representing this community came out in mass numbers in a public march to intimidate, overawe and overthrow public morality that has been in existence for millions of years. My personal admiration for Trump began when he refused to be intimidated by these women. He tongue-lashed them and put them in their proper places. He has since shown them that he is not their friend neither will he pretend to be.
The arrogance of the LGBTQ people is almost insufferable. These people have the right to express their sexual choices in the privacy of their bedrooms. But no. They won’t do that.
They want their preferences to be public and compulsory. They want it imposed on everybody and that it should be accepted as the new normal whether we like it or not. Their arrogance reached its height under President Barrack Obama and Mrs. Hillary Clinton promised to continue and improve on what Obama left.
When, against popular expectation Trump triumphed against Clinton, many in my camp started seeing his emergence as the handiwork of divine forces!
In our ‘mentally retarded’ minds, we simply cannot understand why a man will choose to mess up with a fellow man and why a woman will do same with a fellow woman. We cannot understand why a man will choose to undergo costly surgeries to become a woman and a woman, vice versa.
For us in our camp, anyone who has the courage of his conviction to show revulsion at what those people want to turn the world into, must be a hero whatever his human weaknesses are.
Farooq tells us that Trump does not go to church so we Talibangelicals should not seek to claim him as a religious, or more appropriately, a divine hero.
The truth is, Trump does not need to go to church or be a fire-spitting pastor on a pulpit before God can use him to achieve his purposes. God can use anyone to get what he wants.
In Isaiah 45 God used a pagan king Cyrus of Babylon to achieve his purpose for his children the Israelites. Given what it takes to become an American president no Talibanic or true Evangelical Christian individual can ever hope to become POTUS. God, who is shrewd, will use any individual who is available to be used in that office to do what He wants whether or not he has any religious credentials.
On a personal level, when I was not yet a convinced and convicted Christian, God sent who we now, with better understanding, call an ‘evil prophet’, a native or witch doctor, to me with a message that saved me from instant death. On another occasion, He sent a female evil diviner to me to warn me against going to a place, which with the benefit of hindsight, I now know that had I disobeyed, I would have met with great misfortune.
3. Love is blind: Well, we love Trump also because as romance people put it, ‘love is blind’. Since we love him we cannot see any other faults that he has. For me as a trained journalist however, I still retain that instinct of trying to be objective, to try to see some of what he is doing that is not very good. I object to his policy on Iran; I object to his killing that Iranian General; I object to his cutting funds to W.H.O.; I hate many other Trumpian acts. But wait a minute: is he not human?
4. Trump haters are arrogant and undemocratic: May be Farooq and his fellow Trump haters do not realize it that they are arrogant and undemocratic. They hate Trump and we allow them the right to but we love Trump and they are not ready at all to understand why we should do so at all. And they tell us so in hectoring them as befit geniuses speaking to dunces. They call us all manner of names, mental retards, dullards, dunces and the lot. They cannot understand why we love him. They do not seem to know that love and hate are matters of perspective. Well, as I said before, love is blind. The more they abuse Trump, the more we are pushed to love him.
5. Trump is unpresidentially Presidential. I also love Trump because he appears to me as a man who does not want to be packaged. He says things straight from his heart and he has not imperiled American security in any way. I see the way he speaks about Africans and African leaders as healthy. We have not done well for ourselves and for our countries and we need to sit up and take the task of nation building more seriously. There is nothing Trump has said about us that is a big lie. I love that guy and want him back this year.
Say a big Amen to this, all you Trumpeters and Talibangelicals!
