Stand-Off In Akwa Ibom As Two Ex-Milads Clash

Voting was temporarily halted in Ikot Nya Ward in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State when two former military administrators from the place but belonging to different political persuasions clashed over alleged irregularities in the conduct of the election.

200 out of an eligible 705 registered voters had cast their votes when Capt. Sam Ewang (rtd.), former military administrator of Ogun and Rivers States and now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC ordered that voting in their village, Ikot Nya should be stopped on the allegation that mercenaries had been brought in by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to vote. Ewang is APC and chairman of the Akwa Ibom APC Campaign Council.

His claim was vigorously protested by the former military administrator of Akwa Ibom State, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (rtd.), the chairman of the Divine Mandate Campaign Organisation, the official campaign outfit for the PDP candidate and incumbent governor of the state, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.

“Nobody is going to vote again. That’s what they did during the last election and won. Some people had votes before elsewhere and they went and brought them here to vote. 

“It will never happen again this time around. The only solution is to stop the election.” Ewang said

Nkanga responding, dismissed his claim as he urged the people to be patient as he challenged Ewang to point out the foreigners among the voters.

“Who are the mercenaries. Let them point out those who have voted before. They just want to disrupt the election..That has been their evil plan. They want to cause trouble. 

“You see the people are going. We could have finished voting by now.” Nkanga lamented.
