The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has taken swift action against the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Jesus Sanctuary in Masha, Surulere, closing down its administrative and kitchen complex due to alleged indiscriminate discharge of wastewater into the environment.

According to a statement released by the Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources on Saturday, April 20, the closure of the RCCG offices was enforced following a public complaint from concerned residents. The move is aimed at protecting the environment and public health, as illegal wastewater discharge can lead to soil pollution, groundwater contamination, and waterborne diseases like cholera, dysentery, and diarrhea.

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, a parastatal of the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, urged all Lagosians to desist from such harmful activities and report any illegal environmental pollution to the authorities.

GWG.ng reports that this decisive action demonstrates the state government’s commitment to safeguarding the environment and ensuring a healthy and sustainable Lagos for all citizens.

The action against the RCCG over environment pollution due to the mismanagement of waste is a departure from the usual complaints against public worship places which have been more often accused of noise pollution.
