Fears of community transmission in the country heightened on Thursday after the country recorded its highest daily number of new cases with 381 incidents reported across the country.

It was a 95% increase on the 195 cases reported the day earlier.

Lagos State which had almost consistently led the daily computation of new cases also had a serious jump in the number of new cases reporting 183 new cases representing a 123% increase in the report from the preceding day.

The development is bound to further calls for a total lockdown on the nation’s commercial capital given the spike that has followed the lift of the lockdown.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control in its daily report of the pandemic in the country reported thus:

The spike nonetheless, Lagos has continued to report progressive discharge of patients getting well.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on his twitter handle announced the discharge of 48 patients who had tested negative twice of the virus.

He said:

“Dear Lagosians, we will continue to celebrate and acknowledge our wins, as well as reflect on our losses.

“These will help us stay on course, prevent us from being distracted, help us stay focused as we face this pandemic head-on.

“Therefore, I’m pleased to announce to you the discharge of 48 more patients; 32 males and 16 females, all Nigerians who were discharged from our Yaba, Lekki, Onikan and Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) isolation facilities to reunite with the society.
