75-year-old Professor Ibrahim Gambari who served as minister of external affairs 36 years ago was on Wednesday formally announced as the new Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The announcement was made just before the commencement of the virtual Federal Executive Council, FEC meeting.

The announcement of the retired diplomat has, however, been received with mixed reactions from critical Nigerians some of who took issues with his age.

Gambari was born on November 24, 1944 and served as Buhari’s minister of external affairs during his stint as military head of state between 1984 and 1985.

He was appointed by former United Nations Secretary Ban Ki-moon and the chairperson of the African Union Commission as Joint African Union-United Nations Special Representative for Darfur in 2010.

Following his appointment, some Twitter users have again taken issues with Buhari’s preference for old men in running his government.

GreenWhiteGreen gathered some of the debate on Twitter.
