“Don’t Do That!”: Davido Rebukes Blog After Calling Him ‘Papa Ifeanyi’
By Gideon Ayeni
Afrobeat sensation Davido has taken to social media to address a popular blog for referring to him as ‘Papa Ifeanyi’ in a recent article. The blog had reported on Davido’s statement about loving his people and Igbo food, Ofeakwu, but accompanied it with a moniker that struck a sensitive nerve.
Davido swiftly responded, cautioning the blog to refrain from using the name, simply stating, “Don’t do that.” The reason behind his objection is deeply personal, as ‘Papa Ifeanyi’ is a painful reminder of his late son, Ifeanyi, who tragically passed away in 2022 due to a drowning incident.
In October 2022, gwg.ng reported the devastating news of Ifeanyi’s death, which occurred in the swimming pool of Davido’s Banana Island residence. The incident was followed by speculation that Davido married his wife, Chioma, in an intimate ceremony a few months later, partly due to Igbo cultural requirements for burying a child with their father’s last name.
Davido has since celebrated Chioma’s birthday with a heartfelt message, praising her strength and reaffirming their commitment to each other. The reference to ‘Papa Ifeanyi’ has clearly reopened old wounds, and the artiste has made it clear that he prefers to avoid the painful association.
