Court Jails Dr Anuoluwapo Over Failed Plastic Surgery
The Federal High Court in Lagos State has convicted and sentenced Dr. Anuoluwapo Adepoju, a medical doctor and founder of MedContour Services, for performing a failed plastic surgery that resulted in the death of Nneka Onwuzuligbo in 2020.
Justice Mohammed Liman found Adepoju guilty and handed her a one-year jail term. However, the court allowed her the option to pay a ₦100,000 fine in lieu of serving the jail sentence.
Reacting to the judgment, Babatunde Irukera, a former Director-General of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, expressed his approval of the development in a post on his X handle.
He wrote, “Today is a day of pride for me that I personally prosecuted Anu Adepoju and her medical practice.
“Though I’ve left, the case has ended in a conviction, strengthening the accountability framework for all in society, professionals or otherwise.
“This is how society should work and grow
“Anu Adepoju and her medical practice were convicted on all five counts charged by FCCPC.
“The wheel of justice may grind slowly, but we must see it through. Good day for consumers of professional services.”
GWG.ng reports that the failed surgery had pitted Dr Anuoluwapo not only against the FCCPC but raised a stir on social media.
