President Bola Tinubu has been called upon to in his own interest fire 70% of his cabinet on the premise that the majority of his ministers are dead wood.

National chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Alhaji Shehu Gabam made the submission in an interview on Friday.

Reviewing the activities of the Tinubu government in the last one year in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Gabam faulted the abrupt removal of the fuel subsidy regime and the devaluation of the naira as two of the principal policies of the government that have weighed negatively on the country.

Gabam, however, commended the administration in its efforts in tackling the state of insecurity saying that there has been reasonable progress in that regard.

“For now you can travel at any time between Abuja and Kaduna without the fear of being kidnapped,” the political chief said.

Assessing the cabinet, he singled out the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT for being on top of his job. He also

“I am not close to Wike though he was my friend before but in FCT, hate him or like him, you cannot say that he is not working. He is doing well. The other one that is making noise and though he is very controversial is the minister of works, Senator Dave Umahi. You can see a semblance of something going on though he is embedded with a lot of controversy.

Fuming over the lack of activity in several sectors including agriculture, health among others, Gabam said:
“It is in his own strategic interest to fire 70% of his cabinet,” the SDP chairman said in calling on Tinubu to fire his ministers.
