Court adjourns suit against Bayero, others

Governor Abba Yusuf has ordered the immediate arrest of the deposed emir of Kano Alhaji Bayero after he reportedly quietly entered the city early on Saturday morning.

GWG.ng reports that the governor gave an instruction to the State Commissioner of Police to effect the arrest upon his claim that the deposed emir was part of a conspiracy to create mayhem in the state following his dethronement.

Elaborating on the development, the state’s deputy governor, Aminu Abdulsalam disclosed that the immediate past governor of the state, Dr Umar Ganduje using his office as National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC was part of a conspiracy with the National Security Adviser to cause mayhem in the state.

According to Aminu Abdulsalam all issues pertaining to appointment and removal of traditional rulers in the state reside with the local governments, the State House of Assembly and the governor.

“Nobody else has any other right to interfere or force anybody on the people of Kano,” Abdulsalam said in his rebuff of the alleged efforts of the former governor and the National Security Adviser to interfere in the process.

GWG.ng gathered that the deposed emir reportedly entered into Kano early on Saturday. The state administration, however, alleged that his entry was to defy the new law that removed him as emir of the reduced emirate of Kano.

According to a statement by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sanusi Tofa, Bayero was smuggled into the city in an attempt to forcefully return to the palace. The Governor has accused him of disturbing public peace and attempting to destroy the relative peace enjoyed by the state.

The statement revealed that the new Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, arrived at the palace in the company of the Governor, Deputy Governor, Speaker of the State Assembly, and other top government functionaries at about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Governor, as the Chief Security Officer of the state, has directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest the deposed Emir with immediate effect.
