The Edo State Government has debunked what it on Tuesday night described as the fake news making the rounds on social media on the purported dissolution of the State Executive Council (EXCO) and sack of political appointees.

GWG.ng reports that the rumour had also alleged that Governor Godwin Obaseki had also dismissed all his political appointees.

The Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie in a statement made available to GWG.ng traced the rumours to those he claimed as mischief makers who want to cause panic in the state.

“The rumour is the handiwork of mischief makers and fifth columnists who are out to cause panic and confusion in pursuit of their selfish agenda.

“The government urges all appointees (Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants) to carry on with their duties and responsibilities and disregard the fake and fabricated news.”

GWG.ng reports that the news of the dissolution of the State Executive Council is coming in the wake of heightened activities political activities ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

Though he did not say it, it is alleged that the rumours of the sack of political appointees was directed at weakening the support base of the outgoing governor ahead of the forthcoming Edo governorship election.
