Man Arraigned For Allegedly Assaulting Wife’s Lawyer In Family Dispute

A 60-year-old man, Ogungbe Emmanuel, appeared in court on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting his wife’s lawyer during a family dispute.

Ogungbe, whose residential address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and breach of public peace before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Kolade Tedunjaye, informed the court that the incident occurred on May 15 at the Chief Magistrate Court premises in Ebute Metta West.

 Tedunjaye stated that Ogungbe attacked Alowonle Yetunde, the lawyer representing his wife in their family matter, causing her serious injury while she was performing her professional duties.

The charges brought against Ogungbe are in violation of sections 168 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Magistrate O.O. Ikobayo granted Ogungbe bail set at N500,000, requiring two responsible sureties of the same aamount

Additionally, Ogungbe was ordered to submit his international passport, and one of the sureties must possess a landed property.

The case has been adjourned until June 7 for substantive trial.
