The crisis in the Rivers State House of Assembly is set to escalate on Monday with the two factions loyal to Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike holding separate sittings on Monday.

GWG.ng earlier reported that on Sunday night, the faction led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, which is loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, invited a new commissioner-nominee, Emmanuel Frank-Fubara, to appear before it on Monday for screening and confirmation as a member of the State Executive Council.

The invitation was extended through a letter written by the Clerk, Dr. G. M Gillis-West.

On the other hand, the faction led by Martin Amaewhule, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, will also convene a plenary session today, according to Punch Newspaper.

The pro-Fubara lawmakers will meet in a makeshift chamber at the Government House in Port Harcourt, while the pro-Wike lawmakers will gather at the official State Assembly quarters on Aba Road, also in Port Harcourt.

Notably, this will be the first sitting of the pro-Wike group since the Court of Appeal ruling recognised them as legitimate members of the House.

Recall that the Court of Appeal upheld the 25 lawmakers loyal to Nyesom Wike as valid members of the House of Assembly last week.

The controversy between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike has continued unabated, throwing the state into political tensions
