Why I Fed My Son Rat Poison – Woman Confesses

A 31-year-old woman, Elizabeth Nwenwi, decided to kill her teenage son, Marvis, with rat poison in order to have enough time and resources to take care of the remaining 4 children.

Elizabeth, who hails from Egbeka in Ovia North East  LGA of Edo State  confessed  to the crime while being paraded with other  suspects at the Headquarters of the Edo State Police Command in Benin City,the Edo State capital.

According to her “I have suffered so much in the hand of Marvis, because  of  sickness, right from his birth. Everyday when I go to the farm, people will come and  call me to say Marvis fall and I will run back from the farm to come and carry him, his sickness was  to much for  me.

“That day, when my husband went to the farm, I prepared rice  and put rat poison ( otapiapia),and gave it to him and he died. It was our nieghbours that called the police and they arrested me and my husband.”

Her husband, Isaac ( 51) said he was not aware of  what his wife planned to do  that day, that he had gone to farm, but was later called by their nieghbours to be told that Marvis, who was his first son was poisoned by his wife, Elizabeth. He narrated how their nieghbours invited the police, who came and arrested  two of them.

The two were among suspected criminals paraded by the police on Monday.

The Public Relation Officer of the Edo State Police Command, DSP Chidi Nwabuozo said the couple was arrested in connection with the murder their 19 year old Son, who was allegedly poisoned by his parents and the police are still investigating the matter.
