Bayo Onanuga has accused supporters of Peter Obi of being arrowheads of the alleged nationwide protest against the Bola Tinubu administration

The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga, has accused Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 General Election of inciting the planned protest in Nigeria.

On his X platform today, Onanuga claimed that supporters of Obi were behind the plans for nationwide protest and should be held accountable for any resulting chaos.

Onanuga drew parallels to the ENDSARS protest of October 2020, suggesting that the same individuals who were influenced by IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu were now supporting Obi and canvassing for the anti-Tinubu protests.

According to Onanuga, a senior aide of President Tinubu, the ENDSARS protest, which began as a genuine movement against police brutality, was hijacked by IPOB members with their own agenda, leaving lasting damage on Lagos.

Onanuga further alleged that these same elements joined the Labour Party in 2022, backing Obi, and were now using hashtags like ‘EndBadGovernance,’ ‘Tinubu Must Go,’ and ‘Revolution2024’ to promote their cause. He criticized them as anarchists, accusing them of trying to destabilize Nigeria because Obi failed to win the 2023 presidential election.

He claimed that their calls for revolution amounted to treason and a coup attempt against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Onanuga mentioned that he has been tracking a protest organizer who operates an internet radio station based in Abuja. The individual according to him, has been actively recruiting supporters and spreading messages critical of Obi’s opponents. The organizer’s profile includes controversial content about Obi and retweets of his posts.

Onanuga defended the Tinubu administration’s efforts to address economic issues, such as raising the minimum wage, providing student loans, and distributing palliatives contrary to the assertions of the protest mobilisers and inferences by Obi. He argued that, despite global economic challenges, Nigerians should wait for the next election cycle in 2027 to address their grievances rather than resorting to protests that could destabilize the country.

He concluded by highlighting the improvements in Nigeria’s economy and governance, urging those dissatisfied with the current government to wait for the next election to express their choice.

Many, however, don’t find this amusing, and as usual, the comment section has been flooded with diverse reactions to Onanuga’s post.

What Netizens are saying of the claim by Onanuga of the role of supporters of Peter Obi in the alleged protest against the Tinubu government

@RealQueenBee__: Will your children be proud of you as their father? You go explain Taya oga.

@Allezamani: Like this if you never bothered to read the whole rubbish Bayo put up there.

@YeleSowore: The drivel from a sinking regime. There is nothing that could stop an idea whose time has come. It doesn’t matter how you frame your fears and shenanigans, and the truth is that Nigerians are tired of the deceit, corruption, wickedness and incompetence of the ruling class and have opted to act from all locations at once.

#RevolutionNow #DaysOfRage #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria NOW!

@Chimacoeche: With this, I find it worthy to say you have done well, we can join hands to change this country.

@EnuelMazi: They no reason you that’s why your name is not mentioned even though you are forefront of the championing.

@Rooowland1: Another proof Sowere and APC are partners. Sowore is the one posting protests.. Obi is the one they are blaming

@cashoggy: No need for anyone to be apprehensive, sowore has never coordinated a successful protest

This will equally fail as usual

@XDahdy: There is nothing barring us other Nigerians to protect our SW region and people as we have decided in the entire Yorubaland.

The Yoruba people will be on the streets across the SW to protect our homeland if the security agencies failed to protect us from insurgency and anarchy.

@Musinachi1: I think say na Peter Obi be your problem abi you forgot to include him

@NazkaMedia: Do you think protest can remove sitting elected in Nigeria? If no, why protesting, and yes, please give example of such before.

However, those who vote during general Elections not protest rather believe them when they come back home for second terms.
