Protest Ahmad Bashir Nnamdi Kanu release

Former Media Aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has faulted the alleged decision of organizers of the August 1 protest to add the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, to their demands.

Ahmad vowed never to join the protest if Kanu’s unconditional release was part of the demands of the protesters.

Posting on X, the former presidential aide wrote: “You should not expect me to join a protest where the unconditional release of terrorist Nnamdi Kanu is listed as one of the non-negotiable demands. Never!”

Popular activist and convener of the nationwide protest, Omoyele Sowore, had unveiled the key demands to be tabled to President Bola Tinubu’s government.

It’s worth noting that the country’s economic situation has prompted citizens, especially the youth, to propose large-scale protests nationwide.

Despite efforts by the government to quell the move, Nigerian youths have insisted on embarking on the protest in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

The looming protest titled, ‘Days of Rage’, or ‘EndBadGovernance’, is aimed at drawing the attention of the Federal Government to the unfortunate economic situation of the country.

Part of the demands listed by Sowore is the unconditional release of Kanu.

The IPOB leader has been locked up by the Nigerian Government despite courts granting him bail.

@Faruqadewale5: U are just looking for an excuse

@BashirAhmaad: And fortunately, you guys gave me one.

@Oforma19: Honourable member without dignity

@osquare78: Ode! There is no such thing on the list of demands by Nigeria. You just created your own version.

@gwenshuga: Nobody is interested

@Dnpassion: As long as he is not a Hausa Fulani man abi. You are mad and you didn’t see someone to tell you

@GrowthMindsHub: Which court declared him a terrorist? Last I checked, the courts have declared him not guilty of all the charges and instructed that he be released! But the govt has disobeyed the court using its executive powers to override court decision. Meanwhile boko haram and ISIS the real terrorists are having a field day collecting taxes from farmers unchallenged in the North. Smh

@MasterMaliq: This ones embraces the forgiveness and reintegration of repentant Boko H@ram members into society, yet deems the release of Nnamdi Kanu an unthinkable taboo. Where lies the logic in this contradiction?
