Peaceful protesters in Delta State, including members of the Take It Back Movement, are facing persistent harassment and intimidation from security forces and ethnic groups, despite assurances from the police to ensure their safety.

The Situation Room for the #EndBadGovernanceProtest in Delta State has condemned the harassment, which it said has targeted protesters in various locations, including the Effurun Roundabout, Enerhen Junction, Otovwodo, Sapele, and other communities.

According to reports, protesters have been subjected to intimidation, coercion, and human rights violations, prompting widespread concern and outrage.

The Situation Room has urged affected protesters to seek help from the Human Rights Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) branches closest to them.

The Situation Room also called on the protesters to document evidence of violations, and appealed to the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, to respect citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly and protest, and to take immediate action to stop the harassment and intimidation of protesters.

The #EndBadGovernanceProtest has gained momentum nationwide, with citizens demanding accountability and good governance.

“We condemn the harassment and intimidation of peaceful protesters in Delta State and call on the Commissioner of Police to take immediate action to stop these violations,” said Comrade Awipi Teduolo, Situation Room for #EndBadGovernanceProtest in Delta State.

The Situation Room will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
