Renowned journalist and media personality, Chief Dele Momodu, has expressed his disappointment with the speech of President Bola Tinubu over the protests in the land stating that it failed to address the concerns of Nigerians.

In a scathing critique posted on his social media platform on the early morning speech delivered by President Tinubu, Dele Momodu outlined what he believed a sensitive leader would have done and said to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.

Dele Momodu argued that President Tinubu’s did not demonstrate empathy or a willingness to make sacrifices, given the current economic hardships faced by Nigerians. He suggested that a truly compassionate leader would have announced drastic measures to reduce the cost of governance, such as cutting unnecessary ministries, scrapping redundant personnel, and embargoing luxury purchases.

Furthermore, Dele Momodu proposed that President Tinubu should have used the speech to apologize for investing in luxury items during difficult times and pledged to reduce the presidential fleet to a maximum of two aircraft. He also advocated for a thorough review of petroleum subsidy payments, an immediate return to old prices, and an acceleration of work on existing refineries to curb corruption.

In addition, Momodu suggested that reputable accounting firms and banks should be engaged to manage student loans and vocational grants, rather than tasking civil servants and politicians with the responsibility.
