It was a win-win for all in Akwa Ibom State as Governor Umo Eno gushed after youths in the state heeded his plea not to join the nationwide demonstration against hunger and bad governance.

In appreciation of the faithful followership of the youths, the governor promised to fully actualise his plans to provide social welfare support for at least 5,000 youths in the state.

Governor Eno who spoke while addressing worshippers at All Nations Christian Ministry International, Eket Local Government Area, during the first Sunday Special Service in the month of August 2024.

The governor could barely hide his sense of fulfillment with the restraint of the youths despite the hardship in the land.

GWG.ng reports that prior to the protest that Governor Eno had pleaded with the youths not to join the protest and bring about the chaos that has been seen in many parts of the country.

So, for him, as he addressed the congregation of All Nations Christian Assembly in Eket last Sunday, it was a sense of satisfaction for him that the youths restrained themselves.

His words, “I am very thankful to Akwa Ibom youths. You didn’t protest, but I heard you louder than those that protested. What you have done is to energize us some more. The responsibility you have placed on our shoulders is far more, because if there is a leadership, there should be followership.

“And you have just exhibited that followership. That you listened to our plea, you have just said to us, we appreciate what you are doing, do some more. I have gotten the message and we are going to put in everything. We have gone back to the drawing board and I am meeting with all the youth leadership in the State tomorrow(Monday).

“I can tell you that very soon, we are going to have a date for a thank you rally for our young people. It is not just going to be a rally, we will use the occasion to tell you what we plan for our young people, how we are going to support five thousand youths across this State.

“Each Local Government will have 200 representatives. You will come and sit according to your Local Government, 31 of you, and that will be 6, 200 including other communities- the Arewa, Yoruba, Igbo Community and the Niger Delta Communities. Each of those communities will come with hundred (100) youths.

” If there was protest, they would have destroyed things, we would have used money to repair those things. But since you heeded to our appeal, it is good to appreciate you. You have made our State proud in the comity of States in this country,”

Governor Eno stressed that it was better to channel the resources of Akwa Ibom youths in supporting the youths, than using such resources to fix public facilities that would have been  damaged as well as treatment of victims of violent protest, and thanked the youths for not participating in the protest.

GWG.ng reports that for Governor Eno who has demonstrated a humility worthy of commendation the show of loyalty from Akwa Ibom youths could well be a temptation for him to brag among fellow governors many of who were not able to constrain their youths.
