Anxiety As WAEC Sets to Release 2024 Results!
Anxiety has gripped the 1,814,344 candidates who sat for the May/June 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as they eagerly await the release of the results this month by WAEC.
The 22,229 secondary schools nationwide that presented candidates for the school examination, as well as parents of the students, are also on edge.
GWG ng reports that the students, schools, and parents have been looking forward to the release by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) of the results of the 2024 WASSCE exam in the first week of August. According to reports, the council had concluded the marking of answer scripts and was finalizing the process to ensure a hitch-free release.
Many of the candidates wrote the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as awaiting result candidates and would require the WASSCE results to secure admission into universities. Educationist Adeyemi Olalekan confirmed the anxiety among the students, schools, and parents, who have been calling to inquire when the results would be released.
Olalekan explained that based on the WAEC policy to release results 45 days after the last paper, the May/June 2024 WASSCE results would likely be released on August 6, 7, or 8. “I understand the anxiety of the students, schools, and even parents. Many universities have started the process of admission exercises after the release of cut-off marks by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and heads of tertiary institutions,” he said.
Earlier, the Head of National Office (HNO) of WAEC, Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, had announced that the examination would take place between Tuesday, April 30, and Monday, June 24, 2024, in Nigeria, spanning seven weeks and six days. He also stated that the results would be released 45 days after the conduct of the last paper, while certificates would be printed and issued to schools in less than 90 days after the release of results. Additionally, results would be released alongside digital copies of candidates’ certificates, accessible on the digital certificate platform.
