Protesters Task Tinubu With One More Controversial Demand

Organisers of the nation-wide protests against bad governance have added one more important demand for the president impacting on the sustenance of IGP Kayode Egbetokun in office

The demands of the organizers of the ongoing 10-day nationwide protests, have increased after they asked President Bola Tinubu to sack the Inspector General of Police (IGP) , Kayode Egbetokun, with immediate effect. 

The #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria organizing committee, which disclosed this on Friday, said that the President must sack the IGP over the killing of several peaceful protesters across the country. 

This demand was made during a candlelight symposium held at the Rights House in Ikeja, Lagos State, on Friday to honor the protesters killed during the ongoing protests. 

It was earlier reported that a large contingent of security personnel, comprising agents from the Department of State Services (DSS) and police officers, surrounded the office of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) in Ikeja, Lagos State, ahead of the public symposium.  

Meanwhile, the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria committee, based at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota, Lagos, had previously declared three days of mourning for those who lost their lives during the ongoing protests.

GWG.ng reports that the 10-day-hunger protests, which initially began on August 1, have reached the last day on Saturday.

According to Amnesty International, the Nigerian security forces killed at least 21 protesters amid a week of protests against economic difficulties. 

At the symposium, Comrade Hassan Taiwo, a committee member and National Spokesperson of the Youth Rights Campaign, stressed the urgent need for the IGP’s removal, citing the deaths of over 40 people nationwide. 

“We are demanding the sacking of the Inspector General of Police (IGP),” he declared.

Following the symposium, the CDHR candlelight procession is set to begin in Alausa.
