A devastating fire has ravaged the Redeemed Christian Church of God (Champion Zonal Headquarters) in Kontagora, Niger State.

The incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 3:00 am, leaving the church building in ruins.

This is not the first attack on the church; a similar incident happened 10 years ago when unknown arsonists set the building ablaze, warning against its completion.

Condemning the latest attack, Niger State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Chairman, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, described it as “barbaric and uncalled for.” He emphasized the need for swift action from authorities to prevent escalation and ensure perpetrators face justice.

Assistant Pastor Samson Ogbebor recounted receiving a distress call and arriving to find the 20-year-old church destroyed, with properties looted. He highlighted the church’s history of challenges, including a previous arson attack 10 years ago.

Elder John Aboje vowed that the incident would not deter church members, appealing to Governor Umaru Bago, the Emir of Kontagora, and security agencies to treat the matter seriously. The incident has been reported to the police for investigation.
