Tragedy struck in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Saturday night as gunmen ambushed and killed four Nigerian Army personnel in a deadly attack.

The incident, which occurred in the border community, also left seven other military personnel wounded. They are currently receiving emergency care at Gudu General Hospital and are expected to be transferred to Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital in Sokoto for further treatment.

The assailants, suspected to be bandits, also set ablaze two operational vehicles belonging to the security forces during the ambush. This latest attack comes on the heels of a previous assault by terrorists last week in the same area, where eight farmers were killed, and over 1,260 livestock were rustled.

Honourable Umar MaiKano Balle, the Sole Administrator of Gudu Local Government, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with newsmen. He described the attack as a targeted response to the ongoing efforts by local authorities and security operatives to curb banditry in the region.

“Many residents, including myself, narrowly escaped the ambush, thanks to the swift action of the security personnel,” Balle stated. He assured that relative calm has been restored in the area following the deployment of additional security forces.
