The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has nullified the discharge certificates of 99 corps members and two individuals granted exemption, all of whom were mobilized by the University of Calabar (UNICAL).

According to a circular obtained by GWG, these individuals were fraudulently mobilized by UNICAL during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 service years hence the decision by the NYSC to invalidate the discharge certificates.

The NYSC Management emphasized its commitment to ensuring that only qualified individuals are recognized by the scheme, specifically targeting those who may have graduated from unaccredited institutions.

As a consequence of these fraudulent activities, the certificates issued to these individuals have been declared invalid.

NYSC has urged Corps Employers, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Corporate and Religious Organizations, Multi-National Companies, and Corps Producing Institutions to take note of this important announcement.

The public is also advised to verify the authenticity of Certificates of National Service, Exemption, and Exclusion Letters through the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.

The NYSC decision on invalidating the discharge certificates is bound to put the former corps members in a dilemma as it will put their credentials under questions.
