Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who cemented her status as the greatest 400m hurdler of all time, during the 2024 Olympics at Paris, has explained why she is not afraid to lose brand deals for being vocal about her faith in God.

The Olympic gold medalist has been making headlines not only for her remarkable achievements on the track but also for her unwavering commitment to her faith, even when it could jeopardize her lucrative endorsement deals.

25-year-old, McLaughlin-Levrone has established herself as one of the greatest sprinters of all time in the 400-meter hurdles, setting a new world record for the sixth time and successfully defending her Olympic title with a dominant performance.

Her athletic prowess has earned her multiple endorsement deals, including a significant contract with New Balance, which secured her an annual base pay of $1.5 million. She also endorses brands like Tag Heuer and Gatorade, contributing to her reported net worth of $12 million.

However, McLaughlin-Levrone’s outspoken faith has occasionally put these deals at risk. In a recent interview, she revealed that she is unafraid of losing endorsements if it means staying true to her beliefs.

“I credit all that I do to God. Regardless of what happens, He’s going to get the praise. Every time I step on the track, I pray, ‘Let me be the vessel in which you’re glorified’… that’s why I do what I do,” she stated, as quoted on SportsDeeka.

McLaughlin-Levrone acknowledged that there has been pressure to tone down her religious expressions, with some advising her to be less vocal about her faith to avoid losing deals. However, she remains resolute in her stance.

“There’s been a lot of talk that I received just about, you know, you may not want to talk so much about that,” McLaughlin-Levrone said.

“You might lose endorsements, you might lose deals. But I mean, I don’t live for the approval of people, so I don’t have to worry about any of those things. And even if an endorsement or something wants to leave, I know that God will provide for me in the way He sees fit.

She added, “So, I’m not going to compromise the truth just to make people feel more comfortable. I know that when people do reject it, they’re not rejecting me, but they’re rejecting the truth. And that’s why it’s okay and I don’t take it personally.”

McLaughlin-Levrone is reportedly considering a switch to the 400 meters, but regardless of the event, she has consistently credited God for every milestone she achieves. After her latest victory, she took to Instagram to express her gratitude.

“What an honor, a blessing, and a privilege. I never want to take these moments for granted. In a week where my faith was tried, my peace wavered, and the weight of the world began to descend, God was beyond gracious.”
