Anambra: Labour Party Condemns Commissioner’s Abduction, Criticizes Soludo’s Abuja Wedding Show

The Labour Party in Anambra State has issued a strong statement condemning the recent abduction of the Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Agha Mba, and his wife by unknown gunmen.

GWG.ng recalls that the tragic incident, which occurred on Friday, August 16, also led to the death of one of the commissioner’s aides, Barrister Ernest Offia, also known as ABK.

In a press release signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, the Party expressed deep condolences to HRM Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, the people of Onitsha, and the family of the deceased. The statement described the late Offia as an “illustrious son” of Onitsha who was “brutally and gruesomely gunned down” in the attack.

The Labour Party expressed growing concern about the increasing insecurity in Anambra and urged the state government to act immediately. The Party called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration to focus on improving security, pointing out that this tragic incident shows the urgent need to protect lives and property in the state.

The press release noted an irony in the state government’s actions. It mentioned that the governor held his daughter’s wedding in Abuja, likely due to security concerns. This decision was compared to the government’s earlier criticism of Nigerian singer Flavour, who is from Anambra, for holding his father’s burial in Enugu instead of Anambra, also due to similar security concerns.

Ernest Offia a.k.a ABK who was brutally and gruesomely gunned down by unknown gun men alongside the kidnapp of the Anambra State Commissioner for Youths; Hon. Agha Mba and his wife, together with other passengers in the same Sienna bus at Obiaja Highway, Delta State, on Friday 16th August, 2024; on their way to Abuja to attend the wedding ceremony of the daughter of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo.”

“While we pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of our departed brother, we call for concerted actions to ensure the safe return of all the hostages and avert further loss of the precious lives of Ndi Anambra.”

“As we condemn in very strong terms, this dastard and criminal act that took away the life and freedom of our great citizens, we call on the government of Anambra State under Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo to quickly act fast to it’s abandoned primary duty of providing adequate security of lives and properties for the entire people and space of Anambra State.

It is indeed quite ironic and worrisome, that the same state government that verbosely attacked and tongue-lashed the music icon of Anambra State, Mr. Flavour for choosing to celebrate the life and times of his Late father at Enugu, Enugu State after duly conducting the Burial and Funeral rights of the Old man in his hometown, Anambra State is now the same entity that has taken the wedding ceremony of their own to faraway Abuja city, obviously for security reasons with little or no consideration for the enormous danger to which our people wishing to attend the ceremony will be exposed to. WHAT AN INDICTMENT!!!!!!……..”

“Finally, we reiterate our call for increase timely efforts to free the hostages and a quick return to the Sacred and compulsory duty of securing the length and breadth of Anambra State by the state government.
