Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has firmly denied rumors of his possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reiterating his unwavering commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The declaration by Wike ruling out his defection comes amidst ongoing tensions within the Rivers State PDP chapter, where he has faced opposition from key figures, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Despite the challenges, Wike has vowed to remain in the party and fight against what he describes as injustices within its ranks.

In a media briefing held in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike addressed the speculation surrounding his political future or possible defection. He clarified that his appointment by President Bola Tinubu, who belongs to the ruling APC, does not signal an impending shift in his political allegiance. Instead, Wike emphasized that his support for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election was rooted in his belief in Tinubuā€™s capability to address Nigeriaā€™s pressing challenges.

“I will not leave the PDP even when the fight at home in Rivers State and at the national level gets tougher,” Wike stated in ruling out a defection. “I am not prepared to join the APC. I have said it before, and I want to repeat it. The work I am doing here was handed over to me by the president, and I am focused on achieving the task before me.”

Wike also expressed his determination to protect the rights of PDP members and correct the wrongs within the party. “I will not fold my arms and allow the party I have suffered for over the years to continue doing injustice to its members. I will not accept that,” he asserted.

Wike’s comments come just a day after the PDP Board of Trustees publicly expressed its support for Governor Fubara, highlighting the ongoing power struggle between Wike and his successor in Rivers State. Despite these internal conflicts, Wike remains resolute in his dedication to the PDP, vowing to fight for the partyā€™s integrity and the rights of its members.
