Peter Obi Alex Otti Onyeka Owenu's burial

Onyeka Onwenu, known as the “Elegant Stallion,” was buried Friday in a private ceremony in Lagos that was, however, witnessed by some of the nation’s leading lights in entertainment, politics and the professions.

She passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72.

Onwenu collapsed during an event honoring Dr. Stella Okoli, Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, and was pronounced dead at Reddington Hospital, Ikeja.

Her funeral service was held at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos. The service saw many notable figures, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti, reflecting on Onwenu’s significant influence on the nation.

After the church service, a private burial took place at a vault in Ikoyi, attended by close family and friends.

Onwenu was celebrated not only for her music but also for her work as a broadcaster, actress, politician, and activist.

She is survived by her two sons, who, along with others, honored her request from three years ago to celebrate her life with prayers, joy, and laughter, without excessive mourning.
