A fresh video of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for Edo State pledging to provide insecurity has gone viral, drawing sharp criticism and fueling debate about his prospects for office.

During a campaign event, Okpebholo shocked onlookers by mistakenly pledging to “provide insecurity” for the state if elected governor.

In the video, which has been widely circulated on social media, Okpebholo made the blunder while addressing a crowd of supporters. His words quickly elicited a visibly uncomfortable reaction from former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, who stood beside him. Oshiomhole was seen shaking his head in apparent disapproval as Okpebholo continued speaking.

The gaffe has since ignited a firestorm of reactions on social media, with many users questioning Okpebholo’s competence and mocking his slip-up. Some critics argue that the incident reflects poorly on his preparedness for leadership, while others have taken the mistake as an indication that he has little to offer the state in terms of improving security.

One Twitter user wrote, “This man said he’s going to provide insecurity, and Oshiomhole is right there regretting his endorsement. Edo people deserve better than this.” Another user sarcastically commented, “We don’t need more insecurity, thank you very much. Monday Okpebholo is clearly not the right candidate.”

Read some netizens’ reactions to the video of Senator Okpebholo vowing to provide insecurity below;

@derek: Oshiomhole was like “ugh FUCK not again!!!” 😂 😂 😂

@agbalaka: Chai, I have never seen this level of mumu in my life

@eze: See they type of leaders they are trying to send to you people

@phil: At least an honest candidate.This is the party’s manifesto.They’ve been providing insecurity for years now.He’s just catching up ..

@etiosa: It’s astonishing that this individual is a gubernatorial run 🤯, despite demonstrating a fundamental lack of understanding of basic concepts 📚. His inability to distinguish between government and governance 🤔, museum and zoo 🎨🦒, and insecurity and security 🚨💔 raises serious concerns about his capacity for leadership 🚫. It’s perplexing that someone with such glaring knowledge gaps expects to effectively lead a state, particularly one as critical as governor 🤦‍♂️.

The backlash follows an earlier controversy involving Okpebholo, who during a separate interview with BBC Pidgin, suggested that if he used N10 million to fix interstate roads, he would claim N20 million from the federal government. That statement also sparked outrage online, with many accusing him of promoting corruption.

As the September 21 election in Edo draws near, the latest slip-up has further fueled doubts about Okpebholo’s candidacy, with netizens calling for a more capable leader to address the state’s challenges.

Despite the growing criticism, Okpebholo has yet to issue a statement addressing the viral video or the public outcry.

With tensions rising ahead of the election, this incident may have a lasting impact on his campaign as voters weigh their options.
