New Buzz On Who Will Replace Ngelale

Following the resignation of Chief Ajuri Ngelale, who recently stepped down as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu due to family health issues, the race on who to replace him is intensifying among the president’s close aides.

GWG.ng reports that the race to replace Ngelale was kicked off after he submitted a request for indefinite leave of absence through a memo to the Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila.

Bayo Onanuga, currently Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, has emerged as a strong contender to replace Ngelale. Onanuga, a long-time media ally of Tinubu, is viewed as a natural fit for the position given his experience and collaboration with the presidential spokesperson. However, he faces stiff competition from two other prominent candidates within the president’s inner circle.

Sunday Dare, a former Minister of Youth and Sports and Tinubu’s former personal chief of staff, is also in the running. Dare’s deep media background, having served as an editor at The News Magazine, and his close relationship with the president could bolster his chances.

Tunde Rahman, another close associate, is also vying for the position. Rahman, currently serving as Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, has a wealth of journalistic experience as a former editor for Punch and ThisDay newspapers.

The final decision is expected to rest with Femi Gbajabiamila, the president’s Chief of Staff, who holds significant influence over the appointment. Insiders suggest that while the three frontrunners are actively campaigning for the role, Gbajabiamila could opt to select someone from outside the current contenders with Daniel Bwala being one of those mentioned. However, echoes of his thunderous vituperations against Tinubu including the assertion that Tinubu cannot do anything in 30 yers are echoing to haunt his prospects.

“The three are in contention for the job, they’re all pulling strings at the villa to get the job. But it is whoever Gbajabiamila picks that gets the job. He may even pick someone outside of them,”- Nigerian Online newspaper, The Whistler quoted a source as saying.
