In anticipation of the September 21 gubernatorial election in Edo State, the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has called for the traditional “Bisusu” ritual to protect the state from potential calamities.

A statement released on Wednesday by Chief S.O. Obamwonyi, the Esere of Benin, on behalf of the Oba, urged all traditional leaders, including Chiefs, Enigie (Benin Dukes), Igie-Ohen (traditional priests), and Edionwere (village heads), to immediately carry out the ritual using the customary items associated with the ceremony.

The ritual, according to the statement, is designed to “ward off evil from our land, especially before, during, and after the forthcoming gubernatorial election in our dear state.”

This traditional move by the revered monarch demonstrates his commitment to safeguarding the well-being of the state as it prepares for the pivotal election.
