Nottingham Forest Liverpool's start

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Nottingham Forest surprised Liverpool at Anfield, ending Arne Slot’s perfect start as Liverpool’s manager.

Hudson-Odoi, who came on as a substitute, made a decisive impact by curling a precise shot into the far bottom corner, beyond the reach of Liverpool’s goalkeeper, Alisson. This victory marked Forest’s first win at Anfield since 1969.

Liverpool entered the game with high confidence, having won their previous three matches without conceding any goals. They had more chances, especially in the first half. Luis Diaz came close before halftime with a shot that hit the near post, and Forest’s goalkeeper, Matz Sels, made a crucial save against an Alexis Mac Allister header. Sels also had a lucky moment when he nearly let Diaz’s shot slip into his own net.

After the break, Forest created more opportunities. Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga both missed their chances before Hudson-Odoi’s stunning goal. Forest fans were ecstatic, while Liverpool struggled to generate clear chances to equalize. Forest moved into fourth place in the Premier League standings with two wins and two draws, while Liverpool remained just above them.

Nuno Espirito Santo, Forest’s manager, received praise for his team’s performance. While Liverpool’s unbeaten start under Slot had been the focus, Forest also remained unbeaten until now.

In the first half, Forest was solid but unremarkable, failing to register a shot before halftime. Nuno’s tactical changes in the second half, including bringing on Hudson-Odoi and Elanga, proved effective. Elanga assisted Hudson-Odoi, who scored the only goal of the match.

Liverpool faced frustration despite their efforts. Slot had enjoyed a strong start, including a notable win against Manchester United, leading to comparisons with Jurgen Klopp’s style. Liverpool showed patience and good build-up play, but they could not convert their chances. Diaz hit the post, and several headers missed the target. Mohamed Salah’s shot was well-saved by Sels. Slot made changes, including bringing on Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez, but Bradley was beaten for the decisive goal. Liverpool had one late chance to level the score when Virgil van Dijk’s header went over the bar. Many fans had already left Anfield before the final whistle confirmed the end of Liverpool’s unbeaten run.
