Governor Seyi Makinde has urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to be steadfast on the future of the country irrespective of the challenges illustrating how his daughter was bullied during her three week NYSC Orientation in Lagos

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has encouraged Nigerian youths to remain confident about the future, despite the country’s current challenges. He expressed hope that the difficulties will be overcome in time.

This message was shared by his Special Adviser on Media, Suleiman Olanrewaju, in a statement made in Ibadan on Tuesday. Governor Makinde gave this advice while speaking to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members during the passing-out ceremony at the Lagos State Orientation Camp. His own daughter was among the corps members present.

Makinde urged the youths to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the compulsory national service to build a solid foundation for their future. He reminded them not to take the experience lightly, as it could shape their lives in significant ways. “Some of you will meet your life partners during this service, as I did 34 years ago,” he said, “and some will form business connections that will last into the future. That’s why it’s important to stay focused and responsible.”

Reflecting on his own experience, the governor added, “I want to thank the Camp officials for the chance to be here today. It is an honor to speak to the future leaders of our country. Thirty-four years ago, I stood where you stand now, and I never imagined I would one day become a governor in Nigeria. Among you, there are future governors and presidents.”

Governor Makinde also shared a personal note, mentioning that his own daughter was part of the NYSC batch. “This shows that as leaders, we are human too. We go through the same things you do, just like your parents,” he said.

He went on to express his gratitude to the camp officials for looking after his daughter during her stay. “When I spoke to the Lagos State Governor’s representative, I mentioned that I couldn’t believe my daughter would stay here for three weeks. She had planned to stay just one night, but it turned into three weeks. She told me she enjoyed herself, although she also said some people bullied her. I told her, ‘Welcome to the real world, where there’s no protection, and you have to face the challenges on your own.'”

Makinde thanked the camp officials for making his daughter feel comfortable during her stay and for their hospitality toward all the corps members.

He also advised the corps members to follow safety guidelines, especially when traveling. “I’ve heard the state director mention that you shouldn’t travel without permission. Many accidents that involve corps members are avoidable. Please don’t take unnecessary trips,” he cautioned.

In conclusion, Governor Makinde urged the youth to take this period seriously as an opportunity to lay a strong foundation for their future. He encouraged them to remain confident, assuring them that the country’s current challenges will eventually pass.
