The Edo State governorship election, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, has claimed victory at the polling unit of Labour Party (LP) candidate, Olumide Akpata.

Polling Unit 11, Ward 06 in Oredo Local Government Area (LGA), which many expected to favor Olumide Akpata, delivered an unexpected result as Ighodalo secured 41 votes, surpassing Akpata, who garnered 32 votes.

Despite Akpata’s perceived stronghold in Oredo LGA, Ighodalo managed to edge him out by a margin of 9 votes, signaling a major upset in the race.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, came in third with 19 votes, further adding to the intrigue of the electoral battle in Oredo.

This outcome reflects the unpredictable nature of the ongoing election, where even key candidates face unexpected challenges on their home turf.
GWG.ng reports that emerging results posted in some of the units in Edo show Ighodalo winning in many of the polling units in Edo South further reducing the permutation of Akpata staging an upset in his home base.

GWG.ng further reports that the APC candidate is expected to do well in the three Etsako local government areas on the strength of the support he is getting from Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the deputy governor of the state, Comrade Philip Shaibu and the deputy national chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih. Okpebholo was winning in many Etsako areas which recorded more than 90% voters turnout.

Eyes are now watching on how Ighodalo can reduce Olumide Akpata in Edo South to define the course of the race.
