Afrobeats star Davido has hit back at a fan who suggested he should stay focused on his music career and avoid political matters.

This came after the singer publicly criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over alleged irregularities in the Edo State governorship election.

Davido’s engagement in the election drew attention, with many questioning why he was so involved, given he’s not from the state. In a follow-up post on X, Davido clarified that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, hailed from Edo State, explaining his interest in the outcome.

A fan with the handle @Riddwane commented: “He should face his music. I like his songs. Politics is not his turf.”

Davido, however, was quick to respond, saying: “Free and fair election in Nigeria … I would be easily elected…. YOU SEF KNOW.”

The exchange underline the singer’s increasing involvement in socio-political discussions, as well as the strong opinions it has sparked among his fans.
