The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is set to declare Senator Monday Okpebholo as the next governor of Edo State having emerged with the highest number of votes in the governorship election according to the results declared by the returning officer on Sunday.

The All Progressives Congress, APC’s candidate emerged with the highest number of votes with 291,667 votes, ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo who INEC credited with 247,274 votes.

GWG.ng reports that one of the outstanding comments by observers at the coalition centre was the delay in the arrival of the results from Oredo an urban local government within Benin-City the capital city.

The last local government to be announced was Ikpoba Okha, remarkably, another local government area within Benin-City which incidentally is the base of the INEC headquarters. No explanation was given for the delay of the arrival of the results.

See details of the votes of how Okpebholo was returned as governor of Edo State as announced by the INEC returning officer, Prof Faruk Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
