New Minimum Wage Payments Civil Servants

Federal civil servants will begin receiving their new minimum wage payments on Thursday, September 26.

This announcement was made by Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, in an interview with the Daily Post.

Mokwa confirmed that workers should expect to see alerts regarding their updated salaries on this date. However, he did not specify whether these payments would include any arrears or back pay.

“Federal Government civil servants will start getting the new minimum wage from today (Thursday) this September 2024. What I can tell you is that the minimum wage salary payment is today; I am not sure of the arrears,” Mokwa stated.

This development follows a confirmation from Ekpo Nta, the Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, who earlier this week indicated that the government has approved an upward review of the consolidated public service salary structure (CONPSS) in accordance with the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act of 2024.

The increase, which raises the minimum wage to ₦70,000, was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 18, 2024, and was subsequently passed into law by the Senate.
