Anthony Joshua To Earn More Than Dubois Despite Knockout Loss
By Benjamin Abioye
Despite suffering a knockout defeat in the fifth round of the IBF heavyweight title fight at Wembley on Saturday, former two-time champion Anthony Joshua is still set to earn significantly more than his opponent, Daniel Dubois.
According to reports from Sporty Salaries via GB News, Joshua had a guaranteed payout of £6 million just for participating in the match, with his total earnings potentially rising to as much as £25 million, depending on pay-per-view sales.
In contrast, Dubois, who scored the upset victory over Joshua, is reported to have a guaranteed purse of £3.5 million, which could increase to £10 million. Joshua’s higher earnings reflect his strong fan base and the considerable attention he draws in the boxing world, even after his loss to another British fighter.
The fight attracted a record audience for a British boxing event, with Turki Alalshikh announcing that “more than 98,128” fans were in attendance.
Following his fourth career loss, Joshua took to Instagram to share his thoughts with his supporters. In a video posted on Monday, he expressed gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment to continue fighting despite suggestions that he should retire. He stated, “We came up short, but we have got to look at all the positives, and that’s the mindset that we have to have—a positive one, always. Look at what we’ve achieved in the space of 11 years, and I want to thank everyone who’s been riding with me. What a rollercoaster journey! But you know what the problem is, is that it’s far from over yet.”
On the other hand, Dubois’ victory has elevated him in the heavyweight division, possibly leading to future matches against well-known fighters like Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. A rematch with Joshua is also a potential scenario as Dubois moves forward in his career.
