Wike Warns Fubara, ‘Nobody Has Monopoly On Violence’

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has come under fire from Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, who stated that “nobody has the monopoly of causing violence.”

Wike gave the caution to Fubara on the use of violence at a reception for him by the Ijaw in Rivers State in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

Wike also took the opportunity to challenge the notion that Fubara represents the views of the entire Ijaw community, as both leaders compete for political dominance in the state.

Speaking at the event, Wike said, “I want to thank this team for organizing this strategic meeting. When Senator George Sekibo approached me on behalf of the Rivers Ijaw Congress to honor me, I initially questioned why they would spend such money. I said, ‘Why not just give me the money?’ But he explained that many people go on television, claiming to speak for the Ijaw people, and I agreed to come and set the record straight.”

Wike emphasized that not all Ijaw people oppose him, despite the public perception. “This gathering is a message to those in Abuja who don’t understand. If someone tells you that the Ijaw people are fighting me, it is not true. There are always ungrateful people in every group. Just because one child goes astray doesn’t mean the entire family is guilty.”

He continued, “People going on TV claiming the Ijaw people are fighting me should be asked who has Fubara made? These are individuals envious of our progress—people we’ve defeated politically time and again. And if given the chance, we will defeat them again.”

Wike also reminded the audience that he played a significant role in making Fubara, an Ijaw man, the governor of Rivers State. “I made an Ijaw man governor of Rivers. God used us, and we all had sleepless nights to achieve that. So who loves the Ijaw people more? The ones who can’t even make their Ijaw brother governor?”

Wike concluded by issuing a stark warning: “Nobody has a monopoly on causing violence. Just because we choose to follow the rule of law doesn’t mean we are weak. We are committed to ensuring that Rivers remains a safe place for investors, and we will continue to stand by that.”
