Edo PDP Chief Opens Up On Obaseki’s ‘N8bn Bribe’
PDP Governors Begged To Give Obaseki Ticket
By Francis Ogbuagu
Former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Edo State, Prince Francis Iyasere has opened up on the alleged N8 billion reported to have been given by Governor Godwin Obaseki to secure the governorship ticket of the party.
Iyasere, a former executive member of the South-South zonal executive of the PDP told GWG in an interview that it was also incumbent on President Muhammadu Buhari to be completely neutral in the election. He said that Presidents Umaru Yar`Adua and Goodluck Jonathan provided the environment for Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to emerge governor in 2008 and 2012 respectively.
Responding to reports that the governor gave N8 billion for the PDP ticket, Iyasere said:
“I don’t understand, a man who could not give his party (APC) money, which warranted them chasing him around could now suddenly dole out 8 Billion naira? Sometimes I feel people are day dreaming. As long as I am concerned, there was no exchange of money whatsoever.
“As I said earlier, the PDP is coming from an angle of opposition for the past 13 years, so we had to throw away our own ambitions and embrace the reality on ground.
“Even, when people like, Hon. Omoregie Ogbiede-Ihama, who had been sponsoring the PDP for the past two years went to court, we supported him, but there was a round table conference which had in attendance, the South-South PDP governors and some friendly northern PDP governors and you can’t have these kinds of persons coming to beg you and you will insist you wanting to go on?”
Asking Buhari to show neutrality and not betray the fatherly trust of Nigerians, Iyasere said:
“Buhari should play a fatherly role on the Edo election. We expect him as an elderly man to play a fatherly role. Is he the president of APC? Look at the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and ex President Good luck Jonathan. Oshiomole won his election under President Yar’Adua and was returned under Jonathan.
“These younger people did not stop him. Buhari should emulate these younger persons,” he concluded.
