“Leave Fubara Alone And Face Your Abuja Duties”- Prominent Politician Urges Wike

Fubara on Wike

Chief Emeka Charles Kalu, a senior figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, to prioritize his duties in Abuja and refrain from meddling in Fubara affairs.

The counsel from Charles Kalu came amid growing tensions between Wike and the current Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The political conflict between the two leaders recently escalated, leading to the destruction of three local government headquarters following local council elections. The escalating unrest has prompted Kalu, who serves as the National Coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party Coalition (PDPCO) and Director-General of Global Initiatives for Good Governance (GIGG), to call for calm and an end to the interference.

Kalu expressed deep concern over the rising political tensions in Rivers State, highlighting the negative impact on peace and governance. He condemned the destruction of public infrastructure, noting that such actions waste public resources and deepen political instability.

“Political power is transient, and it cannot be held permanently by one individual,” Kalu said. He pointed out that during Wike’s eight years as governor, he managed to complete his tenure without major clashes with key political figures and emphasized that Governor Fubara deserves the same opportunity to lead without interference.

Kalu urged Wike to step back and allow Governor Fubara to fulfill his campaign promises to the people of Rivers State, stressing that the ongoing crisis could be resolved if Wike focuses on his responsibilities as Minister of the FCT. He called on Wike to channel his efforts toward addressing the pressing developmental and security challenges in Abuja, rather than disrupting Rivers State’s governance.

“As a father figure in the state, Chief Wike should step aside and give Governor Fubara the space to govern without federal interference or undermining the democratic process,” Kalu stated.

In addition, Kalu called on the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government to intervene and ensure that Wike ceases his involvement in Rivers State politics. He warned that continued interference could destabilize Governor Fubara’s administration, calling for immediate action to prevent further disruptions.

Kalu’s appeal comes as political watchers closely monitor the evolving situation in Rivers State, where the power struggle between Wike and Fubara has caused increasing concern.
