An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) from the Lagos State Police Command was killed in the Agege area on Saturday morning. This tragic event happened after he and his team had an argument with angry commercial motorcyclists, known as Okada riders.

The police were responding to a call about an accident at WEMCO junction along Mobil Road. They arrived to help with a truck that had hit an Okada rider. However, when they got there, a large group of motorcyclists confronted them, demanding that the truck be set on fire.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed that this was a senseless act of violence. Sadly, the Okada rider involved in the accident died, which increased the anger of the other motorcyclists toward the police.

Hundeyin explained that when the police team arrived, they faced a large crowd of riders. As the officers tried to clear the truck, they were attacked by the riders who wanted to burn it. During this attack, the 46-year-old ASP was hit on the head and died at the scene, while the truck driver managed to escape.

So far, five suspects have been arrested, and police are searching for more individuals involved
