Tinubu sack ministers

President Bola Tinubu parted ways with his five sacked ministers on a cordial note according to emerging details.

Details of how President Bola Tinubu delivered the sack message to the five ministers booted from the cabinet have emerged.

The president it was learnt allowed the five ministers to partake in the Federal Executive Council, FEC meeting, following which he asked the five to see him.

The five sacked were Uju-Ken Ohanenye as Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John as Minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman as Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo as Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development; and Jamila Ibrahim as Minister of Youth Development.

The President’s Special Adviser on Communications, Bayo Onanuga disclosed the details of how Tinubu socialised with the sacked ministers in an interview on Arise News Television  on Wednesday night.

He said:

“He called them to a meeting and thanked them for the services that they have rendered to the nation and on that note they parted. Unlike during the military days when they were sacked on radio, he called them and socialised with them, thanked them for the services they had done and explained to them why they just had to go.

“He didn’t make the announcement at the FEC meeting. The only hint to it was that at the end of the meeting, he named five persons and asked them to see him after the meeting. He was polite the way he did it, he didn’t do it the military way.”

Asked to give the criteria used in the sack of the affected former ministers, Tinubu’s aide said the five did not meet the expectations of the president and the public.

“Not just the president’s expectations, it is the expectation of the public. Some weeks ago at the cabinet meeting the President actually told the ministers to go out there, tell Nigerians what you have done. According to the president, he said the perception out there is that the people feel that the government is not performing,” Onanuga said in asserting that the sack of the ministers by President Tinubu was not based on sentiments but on empirical factors.
