Nigerian Film Legend Baba Agbako Laid To Rest (Video)

Nigerian film icon Abdulsalam Sanyaolu, known as Charles Olumo or Baba Agbako, was laid to rest on Thursday in his hometown of Abeokuta, Ogun State on Thursday.

He passed away at the age of 102. Baba Agbako was buried in a white shroud during a ceremony held at his home, attended by family, friends, and many well-known Nollywood actors.

Among those who came to pay their respects were veteran actors Idowu Philips, known as Iya Rainbow, and Foluke Daramola. Bolaji Amusan, the President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), confirmed the burial in an Instagram post, writing, “Finally laid to rest. May your soul rest in peace Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu Agbako.”

Baba Agbako started his acting career in 1953 and was well-known for his dynamic roles and strong on-screen presence in popular films such as ‘Taxi Driver’, ‘Jagun’, ‘Aiye’, and ‘Jayesinmi’. His influence in the Nigerian film industry lasted over four decades, marking an important era in Yoruba cinema. Before becoming an actor, he worked as a mechanic and was an amateur boxer. Even in his later years, he frequently returned to film sets to inspire younger actors.

Born on February 19, 1923, in Abeokuta, Baba Agbako leaves behind a rich legacy in Yoruba cinema and is fondly remembered by fans and colleagues.
