The Anioma Youth Forum Worldwide (AYF-W) has applauded the recent judgment by the Abuja Federal High Court that dismissed the lawsuit aimed at unseating Hon Chinedu Ebie from his position as Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The Anioma youths in a statement made available to GWG.ng said the ruling on the Ebie case brought to the fore that Anioma is a major part and parcel of the Niger Delta Region which convokes on it and its qualified Indigenes the right to man any position in the Commission as stipulated in the Act establishing the Commission.

The group in the statement issued by Comrade Ekwukwo Elvis, National Publicity Secretary observed that no group should be considered above the other in the Niger Delta, the group said:

“Delta State is a powerhouse in Nigeria’s oil sector, consistently contributing over 360,000 barrels of crude oil daily and as such, ranks second-largest oil-producing State only behind Akwa Ibom State, Anioma also provides a large chunk of that production quota from Delta state both in crude oil and gas.

“The whole of the Ndokwa/Ukwuani among others have continuously been suffering degradation owing to oil explorations. For this reason, any Anioma son or daughter is eminently qualified to Chair the NDDC board.

“On the issue of Oil Producing Communities which was the basis for the court action, while we agree that they suffer most, the PIA and the existence of the States’ oil producing development commissions like the DESOPADEC and BASOPADEC have taken care of their plights if vigorously harnessed. The NDDC is for all Niger Deltans.

“AYF-W therefore, calls on all ethnic nationalities within the Niger Delta to embrace a spirit of unity and brotherhood. The Niger Delta is a diverse region where every member state and parts contribute to the nation’s prosperity, and all should share equitably in its leadership. It is crucial that all groups respect the diverse identities and contributions within the Niger Delta, ensuring that the progress of any of its component parts and its people are not impeded by the crude sentiments of ownership or entitlement mentality.”

“With the matter which must have been some sorts of distractions laid to rest, we hereby charge the Board Chaired by Chiedu Ebie and the management team led by Dr. Samuel Ogbuku to buckle up and make a difference by delivering the expected deliverables as Niger Delta youths are no longer ready to take excuses as excuse for failure,” the Anioma youths said in their pledge to Ebie.
