Why Nigerians Are Attacking Ashmusy’s Claim Of N5k Hard Life In University
Popular Nigerian skit maker, Amarachi Amusi, better known as Ashmusy, has sparked a heated debate online after revealing she survived on ₦5,000 for an entire semester while studying at Madonna University.
However, Ashmusy’s claim on surviving on a shoestring of N5,000 has been met with skepticism from alumni who recall a very different version of her university life.
In a recent interview, Ashmusy shared her struggles growing up in a financially challenged household. She described how her family was so poor that 20 people crammed into a room and parlor, and her mother took loans from several banks to fund her education. She maintained that despite her financial background, she has never engaged in “runs” or relationships with politicians to finance her lifestyle.
Reacting to her statements, former classmates from Madonna University’s Elele campus accused Ashmusy of fabricating her story. Many recalled that she was a prominent figure on campus and one of the most successful hair vendors at the time, a reputation that has carried into her business endeavors today.
Critics also questioned her claim of attending one of Nigeria’s most expensive universities on loans, highlighting that tuition fees during her time ranged between ₦200,000 and ₦500,000 per semester. They argued that it would have been unsustainable for her family to afford such costs purely on borrowed funds.
Ashmusy’s claims were further scrutinized due to past allegations by controversial blogger Gistlover, who accused her and fellow influencer Nons Miraj of having relationships with politicians, including Dino Melaye, to sustain their luxurious lifestyles. Ashmusy has repeatedly denied these allegations, emphasizing that her success stems solely from hard work and God’s blessings.
Despite the backlash, Ashmusy remained unshaken, stating on social media, “When you are with God, NOTHING will bother you.” While some fans applauded her story as a testament to resilience and determination, others believe her claims don’t align with her past, calling her a “professional liar.”
The skit maker continues to stand by her narrative, but the debate around her alleged struggles and rise to success remains a hot topic online.
