NDDC Reaffirms Commitment To Niger Delta Development, Meets IYC Leaders

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has pledged to continue working towards the development of the Niger Delta region. This assurance was made during a visit by the leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) to the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt.

Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of the NDDC, was represented by Sir Victor Antai, the Executive Director of Projects. Ogbuku emphasized the importance of involving key groups in the region to strengthen development efforts.

Ogbuku expressed gratitude to the IYC leaders for their support in protecting the Commission’s integrity. He thanked them for resisting efforts to disrupt the NDDC, including calls for protests against its leadership. He assured that the NDDC would not be distracted from its mission to transform the region by moving from mere transactions to real progress.

The NDDC Managing Director also highlighted ongoing initiatives, such as the Youth Internship Scheme, which will start providing N50,000 stipends to selected beneficiaries next month.

He mentioned the Holistic Opportunity Projects of Engagement (HOPE) as another initiative aimed at creating more opportunities for the youth in the region. Furthermore, he reaffirmed the NDDC’s commitment to completing major infrastructure projects throughout the Niger Delta.

In his remarks, Ambassador Jonathan Lopkobiri, the IYC President, represented by Deputy National President Comrade Atigbi Freedom, apologized for a group led by Mr. Theophilus Alaye that had threatened to protest against the NDDC.

Atigbi commended the NDDC for its youth empowerment programs and expressed confusion over why anyone would protest against the leadership of Dr. Ogbuku, who he described as “a man who has shown clear commitment to the betterment of the people.”

The IYC leaders also took the opportunity to address the actions of Alaye’s group, warning that such disruptions could damage the unity and progress of the Ijaw people. Atigbi emphasized that the IYC, under the leadership of Jonathan Lokpobiri, is committed to advocating for the development and peace of the region.
