President Bola Ahmed Tinubu welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the State House in Abuja on Sunday morning, marking a historic moment in Nigeria-India relations.

The Prime Minister, who arrived in Nigeria on Saturday night, was officially received by President Tinubu at the Forecourt of the State House at approximately 10:20 a.m. The reception featured a ceremonial display, including the Indian National Anthem, a Guard of Honour mounted by the Brigade of Guards, the Nigerian National Anthem, and a 21-gun salute following the inspection of the Guard of Honour.

The high-profile meeting between President Tinubu and the Indian Prime Minister is set to feature bilateral discussions aimed at deepening ties between the two nations. Key activities on the agenda include delegation-level talks and the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation in critical sectors.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, highlighted the significance of the visit. “President Tinubu and Prime Minister Modi will seek to strengthen Nigeria’s and India’s ties further during their bilateral discussions. Both leaders will exchange signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to enhance collaboration in critical sectors,” he stated.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit marks a renewed commitment to fostering economic and diplomatic relations between Nigeria and India, with both leaders expected to chart a path toward greater mutual benefit in the coming years.
