Okpebholo Sends Obaseki’s Consultants Packing
The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the immediate suspension of all consultancy services and related providers in the State’s public service.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, it was announced that all financial transactions and services with the affected consultants and service providers are to be halted immediately.
Ikhilor emphasized, “All financial transactions and related services with affected consultants and service providers are to be put on hold immediately, pending the submission of the Review Committee’s report, which was established by the governor.”
He further instructed that all Accounting Officers, Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies comply fully with this directive.
The statement also addressed concerns regarding the unauthorized collection of revenue across the State. The government stated, “The attention of Edo State Government has been drawn to the continuous collection of revenue across the State by unlicensed agents and touts who do not have the authority of government to do so.”
Ikhilor clarified that the suspension of non-commissioned officials involved in revenue collection would remain in place. “Henceforth, only statutory and licensed revenue collectors are mandated to operate and collect revenue on behalf of government, especially in motor parks and other commercial activities.”
The public was also urged to report any unlicensed agents to the police. “Government will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute those found wanting in this regard,” the statement warned. Officials cautioned, “These miscreants, their sponsors and agents are warned not to test the iron will of this government and its determination to secure the lives and property of the good people of Edo State.”
